Artist Statement
I have always enjoyed being outdoors as much as possible. I
choose to paint landscapes and flowers as my subject matter because I
feel closest to it... especially here in the colorful southwest.
However, there is more to my painting than just the landscape and
flowers... the paints themselves are important. Arranging thick
and thin colors of paint on a canvas can be just as real an art as the
subject itself. My paintings are very bright, because I push the
colors to their limits, and I am interested in the contrasts of using
thin transparent and thick opaque paint together.

In my studio at Davis Fine Art, I am not unlike a potter who forms the clay into
whatever he or she desires. My landscapes are formed by omitting
a lot of details plus moving select objects to form the composition I
desire. Lately I have been using fewer objects and more color.
However, I don't want the result to be total abstraction, but
somewhere in between... where abstraction and representation co-exist.
